I am interested in serving on this board as a way to make connections with female mentors and peers and help develop my professional skills. I was a co-major in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies during my undergrad and believe in empowering women to lead and provide equal opportunities to underrepresented demographics of women.
There are several reasons I am interested in serving on a board. They include making a contribution through my communications skills and experience, engaging in networking and making connections for personal and professional growth, and exposure to new learnings and opportunities for development. Finally, I have lived in Summit County and worked for more than 24 years in Akron, and giving back to this great city and community would give me personal fulfillment.
With more than 20 years of experience in Human Resources in private, public, and non-profit organizations, Sarah provides valuable insight into the importance of People Operations within successful organizations. She is a strategic and tactical leader who is responsible for driving cultural initiatives, performance management, talent acquisition, engagement, retention, learning and career development, and workforce planning. Sarah previously held the position of Director of Human Resources at the United Way of Greater Cleveland and worked closely with the Board and community volunteers. Sarah’s time at UWGC gave her a greater understanding of the socioeconomic factors that impact our communities and the workforce. She looks forward to the opportunity to give back by sharing her knowledge and expertise in Human Resources.
Service is part of who I am, I have organized service events and fundraising for more than a dozen non-profit organizations. Including: March of Dimes, Akron Childrens Hospital, CornerStone Rehab, Battered Womens Shelter, and St. Francis de Sales. I truly love helping the under privileged. Being a Women in a Mans Field, I have served on many Women panels including GAC, I run multiple girls in STEM organizations and I serve on the Bridgestone Women Network Board. As a member of the Board I will shorten the Gap for Akron Women. I will be a supportive member and make the best choice for our community.
I"m looking for a Board experience to share my talents and time. I"m a highly effective collaborator dot connecting disparate ideas to bring together actionable outcomes. Personally, I would like to engage more in our community, support positive outcomes locally and work with engaging, talented people in delivering these goals.
I recently relocated to Akron and am excited to serve our great community and get connected to the amazing folks leading those efforts. I enjoy staying busy and being on working boards and committees, in the efforts of making real contributions. My areas of interest are victim services/advocacy, substance use, animal rights/welfare, adult education and supporting non-profits doing work that supports these efforts.
I want to serve the board first and foremost to be of better assistance to my employers and the population I serve. I want to develop connections and to receive mentorship or to be a mentor as well. I also want to strengthen my relationships and networking that can help me with upward mobility.
I think it is so important to give back to the community in some way. Having served on boards in the past, I think my accounting knowledge and experience would lend itself well to boards in the community. I am hoping that through serving on a board I will be able to increase my network and make a difference in the community.

System Director, Organizational Development & Training
Summa Health
I have lived in Chicago, Orlando, Florida and moved to Akron Ohio 3 1/2 years ago. The warmth and fellowship of the midwest is undeniable. Working for Summa Health I see and learn about our patients every day. An amazing reminder that while what I do herein here is important; it is a supportive role for the 8000+ talent and skilled professionals in our organization. Working in several industries including hospitality I believe my perspectives and drive would add value. For a person always on the move to obtain "learning", being part of this organization such as this would be a privilege; it gives a strong avenue for me to learn more about our community and those we all serve.
I want to motivate other women by sharing my personal experiences and being a support system. I want mentorship from other women. I want to be an example, especially for my daughter, that we as women are capable and everything we want is achievable.
I have worked in corporate America and now on my own for more than 30 years. I have so many experiences that shaped who I am as a female leader and entrepreneur. My desire is to help others realize their dreams of becoming a business owner or help those who prefer to work in a corporate environment achieve their zenith. I feel fulfilled when I can help others grow and stretch beyond their comfort zone to produce extraordinary results.
We all win when Greater Akron is lifted up. I'm not an Akron native, but Akron is home and I want it to remain home for my children and their children someday, so I'd better get to work on contributing to its success!
I see board service as a way to be involved in the community and provide support to non-profit leadership and staff. Board members should be more than meeting attendants. It is an opportunity to share your specific skills with an organization to help to move the mission forward.
I have lived my entire life in Northeast Ohio and feel it is important to give back to the place you live. My careers are about service to others and it would only be fitting for the work I do in my spare time to do the same.
