Overview
A distinct view and the ability to succeed in a complex world is an advantage that I bring to any organization. Many stereotypes plague individuals who receive assistance. Regulations and laws can complicate the ability to assist individuals in need. The truth that we all face and must navigate is the stark difference between those who need assistance and those who are eligible to receive it. My career has been built by learning to navigate the differences and specializing in programs to impact as many as possible. The ability to share my journey and what I have learned over the last 20 years can help organizations avoid delays and pitfalls in their mission.
Biography
With over 20 years of social service and leadership experience, I possess a vast knowledge of government policy that impacts the lives of our most vulnerable population. In my current position as Deputy Director of the Workforce and Program Services Division at Summit County Department of Job and Family Services, much of my time has been focused on the adult and youth workforce programming for SNAP & TANF-funded programs. Additionally, my current focus includes Prevention, Retention & Contingency programming through community-focused contracts, agency performance management through quality assurance, and state hearings. I also collaborate with local and state governments to implement programs when legislation is passed. I started my career in public assistance at Medina County Job and Family Services as a fiscal specialist and case manager. I went from there to work for the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services completing quality assurance reviews for SNAP benefits which included completing in-home interviews. I have led a team of over 50 diverse and motivated staff members to accomplish life-changing work from providing food and housing assistance, crisis intervention, job placement, and case management. Throughout my career, I have seen the impact of social service agencies and initiatives through many different lenses.
Coupling my professional career with my personal background of growing up in a working-class household that faced many hurdles including financial uncertainty, medical emergencies, and a natural disaster, I know the value of safety nets including community, family, and government. As a wife and mother, I understand the need to advocate, listen, and champion those in our lives and our community.
